10th Year Celebration a Success

six - Posted on 03 May 2010

Thank you everyone who came out in support of Chinatown Youth Initiatives.

Our 10th year celebration was an astounding success!

Celebrating the milestone of reaching its 10th year, the organization honored three great supporters of the organization.  Gloria Chan, OCA-NY, and Corky Lee.

We at CYI would like to thank everyone who came to show their support.

Honorees:

Gloria Chan founded CYI in 1999 and held its frst summer leadership workshop in 2000 through Swarthmore College’s prestigious Eugene Lang Opportunity Grant Program, which provides seed money for social action projects such as CYI. Gloria is currently the executive director of the Asian
Pacifc American Caucus (CAPAC
). Prior to her current position Gloria clerked for the Honorable Teodore H. Katz in the Southern District of New York.

OCA-NY (OCA- New York Chapter) is a national organization founded in 1973, and remains dedicated to advancing the social, political, and economic well-being of Asian Pacifc Americans in the United States. OCA-NY has been a long-time supporter and partner of CYI and its mission. Both organizations have partnered together on Chinatown Beautifcation Day and the Hate Crimes Prevent Arts Project.

Corky Lee (bio in Asian American Journalists Association) is a self-taught photographer who documents the daily lives of Asian Pacifc Americans in lieu of historical moments in American History. Corky has been supporting CYI through his participation in the Summer Leadership Institute, serving as a guest speaker on Asian American voices in the media and arts.

Special thanks to our Cynthia Lin and Notorious MSG.  Check out their work at http://www.cynthialin.com/ and http://www.notoriousmsg.com/.

For photographs from the evening, see Sky Li's photo album on facebook.

We would like to thank everyone for their support of Chinatown Youth Initiatives and its programs through the past 10 years. We would like to also express our appreciation for the individuals who have made the 10th Year Anniversary a success. It is through the dedication of everyone involved, our volunteers, sponsors and donors, the greater Chinatown community and the friends and family of Chinatown Youth Initiatives that today is possible.
